Below is a link to the latest Pasadena Star News story on Lincoln Crossing. What a pathetic waste of an opportunity to improve West Altadena. I know the story runs deep, and accusations abound about the misbehavior of the County of Supervisors, the developer, and who knows who else. Plenty of fingerpointing going around, but who’s going to clean up the mess?
The meeting with the Altadena Coalition will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Altadena Community Center, 780 E. Altadena Drive.

After years and years of waiting for this project to get completed – it is such a shame that it is struggling. It’s been such a bummer to lose the grocery store.

The press and Altadena blogs are full of Helga Kuhn, former owner of Bessie’s Daughter’s Soulful Tacos restaurant, blaming everything for her lack of customers but the unwelcoming decor and a cutsey, but unremarkable, menu with odd mispellings of what should have been familiar foods.
The Panda Express right next door seems to be doing OK. I’m never the only customer in there when I visit. It is attractive and has simple, appetizing and clear menu. Yes, I know it is a chain, but it is a locally grown chain that locals have enjoyed over the years. Even when it was just a couple of restaurants back in the ’80s, the places themselves were attractive, the food was fresh and good, and the menu was clear and inviting.
I’ll really miss Farm Fresh. I used to like to shop there when it was at Orange Grove and Los Robles, and the Altadena location was even better than the old one was.
I often would poke my head into Bessies to see if it might be worth a try, but was always turned off. Not by smells or lack of signage, or whatever else Ms. Kuhn is blaming this week, but because the menu seemed like an “in” joke, not the description of good food, and the place never looked welcoming. I’d always opt for Panda or the Sushi bar or the Soul Food place inside of Farm Fresh.
